William Walker came to America in 1780 at age 10 from Donegal County, Ireland. His brother, James Walker, a talented millwright built the home around 1800 with the assistance of James Dinsmore, one of the principal builders of the University of Virginia. The home, a perfect example of Palladian architecture, was restored in 1990 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. I first saw the home when I visited Albemarle County in 2001....
