Not a great place to ride
2 of my friends and I recently visited Ft. Valley Stable & Campgrounds. Everything was very nice, except, the riding, which of course, was the main reason we went. Some friends warned us, and the website mentions that shoes are needed, but even with shoes, it was a horrible experience for our horses. Even though they were shod all the way around, they still struggled with their footing. The trails were so worn, there were places their hooves sunk up to 4-5 inches in mud and they were trying to climb out over boulders. It was really nerve racking & we were concerned for our safety as well as our horses. One of the horses still a bad stone bruise. We are experienced mountain riders with mountain horses used but it was just too rocky to the point we thought it was unsafe. The trail markings were awful, with so many different colors that did not match the map we were given; it was confusing. Too bad, great scenery, campground and amenities, just leave your horses at home!

Great place to camp!
I had such a great time at middle creek, we swam in the pool all day and relaxed by the fire at night. it was very peaceful and they had a lot of neat things to get into. I would recommend this campground to anyone who loves camping!

Anvil Campground Stay Away!
We've traveled coast to coast and stayed in some bad campgrounds, but Anvil Campground in Williamsburg is the absolute worst. If you're viewing this on Google Maps turn on the transportation layer and follow the train line that runs 50 feet from your site. See where it goes down to Norfolk. Now zoom in on the black blob. There it is millions of tons of coal all destined to shatter your experience every hour, 24/seven in 100 car unit trains courtesy of CSX. We checked in, intending to stay a week. Ten minutes after we'd paid and five minutes after the staff disappeared for the evening the first train went through. With no one to give us our money back we thought we'd tough it out for the night. At 3:30 AM my wife was crying so hard we had to stay at the Clarion hotel. (nice by the way). When I came in in the morning he refunded my money excluding the night we 'used'. There is no excuse for this park to be open. It is not in a safe or suitable location for an RV park.

ok for the price
I stay here with my parents on the way to or from Florida from Pennsylvania. I agree with other people that the train noise can be disturbing to light sleepers. fortunately, I'm a sound sleeper, and it doesn't bother me. it's a fairly clean campground. there are less than a dozen campers there when we travel in either February or March, so other people don't bother us. I've never had a problem with theft because we only stay overnight and we're in the camper the whole time. so we're there to protect the camper and it's possessions. only real complaint is that it's a little difficult to contact them. we called several times to get a reservation, and ended up letting a message on their answering service to have them call us back. on the same note, when we leave in the morning, we usually have to wait until 8 am when somebody comes to open the office in order to pay and check out. we usually like to start driving before this time, but if we want to stay here, we know how they work, and plan accordingly. is fairly easy to get on and off of I95 which is one of the main reasons we stay here; also that it's only 6 hours from where we live. makes it convenient to stop if we have to avoid snow in Pa or on the way to Florida, is nice to get to warmer climate so the camper doesn't have to be winterized.

Not a good campground
We camped there in the middle of the summer. There are many large trees for shade. But we went to get on the free shuttle to go to Kings Dominion ... 45 minutes we waited (it was late)and then by the time it came there were too many for the shuttle. We were the first people waiting to get on and got pushed out of line by very rude people then ended up not getting on. The staff did not care. They told us that the next shuttle will be coming soon. It was almost 11:00 by that time. We ended up using our van and had to pay to park. By the time we got to the park the lines were long and it was hot. We were mad and did not want to ever go back to the campground. It is the only one in the area so lots use it. Good luck to any who try the shuttle.
