Pony Express RV Resort - North Salt Lake City, Utah

Go to Salt Lake City for the Mountains!
But don't stay at Pony Express RV Resort! The spaces are way too close together and so unlevel that it makes it hard even if you have automatic levelers. The whole park is concrete and black-top with very little grass or Shade Tree's. They seem to get a lot of "Oil Workers" since they are so close to the refinery. You can also smell the "stench" from the refinery and hear the roar of the traffic on the expressway that runs right through the Park. But the worst part of our stay was the way we were treated by the Management! Ed and Judy have no experience running a RV Park and zero customer service skills. They were always rude and often sarcastic and grumpy. We moved on to the KOA on North Temple and they were so nice and commented on how they often get comments like ours from Pony Express RV Resort. So the morel of the story is...go to Salt Lake City for the beautiful mountains but don't go camping at Pony Express RV Resort! See you all down the road.

Beware of service station cover-ups !
While traveling this spring, we decided to stay at Ruby's Inn RV park. The staff was rushed and unorganized, still friendly however. Spaces were real close to another, plenty of length though. We decided to have a service performed on our tow vehicle while we were there, normally a $65-70 charge. Two days later, a new alternator, rental car to pick up the part in a town 80 miles away, and over $500.00 spent, we were on our way. The alternator was apparently shorted out to the filter wrench during the oil change. A normal occurrence for this vehicle due to the location of the alternator, and the filter. I have over 100K miles on the vehicle, many services performed in many locations , never a problem. We sent a letter to the Mgr. of the station (still no word back). I called 5-6 weeks after sending letter, to get the name of the Mgr., so we could contact him/her directly and make sure our letter was received. When the phone was answered, I requested the name of the Mgr., there was a mumble, mumble I failed to understand. I asked the person to please repeat the name, or spell it. I was told they were busy, and hung up. Family owned businesses that have a grip on their market, are a hot spot for rude treatment like this. We have plenty of travel plans for the future, and have a lot of friends. We certainly won't stop there again, and will suggest the same to our friends. We feel this is an excusable event, a simple mistake by a mechanic, but the treatment from management is horrible.

Awful
We stayed in the campground behind the hotel at Zion Canyon. We were a group of 29 people and we were packed into four tiny sites. Another big problem was that the road by our site did not have an outlet so you had to back out. Because we were traveling with 19 people's camping gear we had a trailer. You can't imagine how difficult it was to maneuver that in such a tight space. When I made the reservation several months earlier, I made it clear we were a group and was surprised at the terrible location we were given. I was immediately sick when I saw where my group had to stay. We just kept saying we were glad we were only going to be there two days and then we could get out of there. There were two shower/restroom buildings. The one in the RV section was very clean. The one in the tent section was filthy with mud everywhere. I kept thinking they just hadn't been cleaned yet but it never got any better. You get one shower token a day free but if you want another (it is very hot there) it costs $5 and the showers only last 5 minutes. I've paid a lot for showers but this was by far the most expensive and by far the shortest showers I have ever experienced and we have been to a lot of places. Another problem is that they don't keep anyone on duty at night. We got in late from hiking in the park and wanted our shower tokens but they were closed. Even the cheapest of hotels keeps someone on duty through the night! There is a pool and that was the reason we stayed there instead of the national park campgrounds but it was very small. After seeing the national park campgrounds, we were very sad we had not stayed there instead. Their website said there was very little shade but there was far more than we had in the Quality Inn campground. I would never recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in the campground. The one pro is that a shuttle stop is right by the hotel which was very handy.

Loved Archview cabin
We loved our stay at Arch View Resort. We stayed in a basic cabin with two full size beds and one twin. The twin was just a wooden board but my 11 year old daughter put a blanket and sleeping bag on it and had no complaints. We grilled on the grill provided in front of the cabin, and ate our dinner with a great view of the nearby beautiful scenery of Arches National Park. At night we did some stargazing, and many constellations, the Milky Way, etc. were readily visible. The cabin's AC worked great (though we turned it off when we slept because we didn't want the sound and it was cool at night), the showers were clean, hot and sufficiently big, the campground was very quiet and from our cabin we could not hear the highway, even with our windows open. We had a refrigerator which even had a compartment that held our bag of ice and kept it frozen. The owners are very pleasant. We originally had a reservation for two nights but decided to continue on our trip after staying in Moab one night, and Arch View let us cancel our second day without incurring a penalty. I highly recommend their cabins.

Give Ruby's a try!
We typically like to camp in campgrounds within the National Parks, more of a true camping experience even with our camping trailer. Neither of the two campgrounds within Bryce NP took reservations and since we were driving from Colorado, I like the peace of mind knowing I have a site reserved. Ruby's is more like a KOA with all the amenities such as laundry, pool, hook ups, dump station and a market down the road. I don't normally like this kind of campground, but I liked Ruby's. The sites near the back of the campground, especially sites 133 and 132 still have electric and water hooks ups and were quite shaded and wooded. We had site 133, a pull through which overlooked a meadow, I think it was the best site in the campground. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed our stay, being able to do some laundry and have easy access to the market. There is a huge gift shop right down that road by Ruby's Inn, you can buy just about anything here! They even offer a rodeo on Wednesday evenings. The campground was quiet at night and although these touristy campgrounds are not usually my thing, I would stay here again! Ruby's is a destination in and of itself!
