Don't waste your money on this place

Rented a floating cabin for the weekend, $135.00 a night.
Arrived after closing time, after dark on Friday night, and saw what the pictures on the website do not show.
The place was overgrown with weeds, around the dock entrance to the check in, in the stairs down to the restaurant & bar, and in the lake! Half the parking lot was full of rusting metal and dock material.
Upon arrival to our cabin in the dark (they didn't have the courtesy to turn on the outside light for us to locate the number on the cabin in the dark) we found that it severely leaned to one side, and both doors to our cabin was covered in spider webs, which we had to clean off before entering. Weeds were growing up on the dock/porch of our floating cabin.
The curtain rod over the bedroom sliding door was so swayed, it had to be handled carefully to keep the curtain rod from falling out of the wall. The pillows were flat and very cheap. The bed was clearly not the queen bed that we asked for, but a small double (that leaned because the cabin leaned). The door on the inside of the bedroom was propped open with a trash can...because the cabin leaned to one side. We asked a worker about the leaning the next day and was told " oh, its always been like that".
One burner plate on the electric stove had cooked on food in it. Yuck! Dead bees inside on the floor in front of the spider web covered sliding front door. Clearly, no one cleaned this cabin prior to our stay.
We walked from our cabin to the restaurant/bar located on the paddle boat. There were no lights in the parking lot to guide you safely there. The amount of weeds growing thru the wooden stairs prevented you from seeing each stair much less the pathway to the paddle boat.
Rented a boat half the day on Sat. afternoon. This boat wasn't clean from the previous renters before us. There was only one gage that worked on the boat. There was not a fire extinguisher in the mounted holder. The lake was so overgrown with weeds in so many areas, that it was impossible to swim in it. We had to remove weeds off the anchor of the boat before we returned it. When we did return it, and ask about refueling the boat back to full, we were told the gas pump didn't work and that they would call us when it was fixed that night, with the amount of gas we needed to pay to refuel the boat. We mentioned the amount of weeds in the lake, and were told that the bass fishermen loved the weeds, and that they had the money that paid to influence those in control of the lake to keep the weeds.
( Clearly a bogus excuse for the weeds!)
Looking forward to a shower after swimming in the weed infested lake on our boat ride, we quickly discovered that there was no hot water in our cabin! We reported it and waited for someone to show up. Having waited more than an hour, we decided that our dinner plans were not going to be ruined too and we took cold showers. The worker came by afterwards and showed us that the breaker ( behind the leaning door, propped open with the trash can) was not on.
The highlight of our entire weekend was dinner at Riverside Seafood Restaurant, located 10 miles down the road away from the Marina. Now that place knows how to treat their customers. Fast service, great food and no excuses!
Not very fancy, but they don't try to fool you into thinking its something they are not.
We convinced ourselves to continue our stay one more night and leave as planned on Sunday. When we checked out, we asked about the charge for fuel to the boat. We were told they were still working on the gas tank and that they would call us in an hour or so. We left, and later received a call from them stating that we owed $57.00 in fuel. We used the boat for 3 hours. We reminded them that we were told prior to our rental appt. that the boat had not been cleaned after the previous renters and that it was also possible they didn't refuel the boat. The amount of fuel charge was excessive for 3 hours. They agreed and charged us half of the charge for refueling.
As we discussed our weekend stay at Hales Bar Marina and Resort, it was 100% clear that we would never return there for another stay, that we would never recommend it to anyone we cared about, but that we would surely do our part in giving this place a honest and thorough review to prevent any other suckers from spending their money there.
We took a chance on this one, as we look for reviews before we book reservations. We didn't see any reviews and went solely on the website... lesson learned.
Our grade for Hales Bar Marina and Resort....D minus...Zero stars.
Our opinion... a turd trying to be a rose.
