Pirateland is for my family and me!
We keep our trailer stored at Pirateland just so we don't have to worry and they bring it to the site and pick it back up. We have been camping for about 16 years and have stay at other campgrounds, but this one is better by far. We started when our daughter was about 10 and now that she is 26 she brings her family to Pirateland. Great family atmosphere! If you want to party, please, stay somewhere else. But if family and fun are what you want, this is the place for you. Plenty to do, mini golf, swimming, bingo, tennis, basketball, lazy river and all kinds activities going on. The staff in the office is always helpful. The staff in maintenance works everyday to keep park nice and clean. Clean laundromat, nice camp store, arcade and snack bar. We love Pirateland!

OK but not for me
I think this is a place that families with bad kids go so they can turn them loose. To many golf carts with kids driving them at all hours during the day and at night. Fireworks going off late at night hitting the roof of the camper. The sights are so close together you couldn't fit a greased bb between them. The sites and beach area not the cleanest I have seen. If you like crowds and a lot of kids running around this is the place for you. Hatteras NC is the place for me!

GReat Place for families to stay!
Our daughter wanted to go to Myrtle Beach for her 9th birthday, so we chose to book a stay with the KOA Kampground. It was pretty neat, we never stayed at a place with Kabins before, this was a great choice we made. We got the four person Kabin, it features a Full size bed and a set of bunk bed. It had air conditioning and electricity also. The room was not big, but big enough for us four to sleep in. We would definitely do this again. The bath house was pretty clean, and it had 6 toilet stalls and 5 shower stalls. I would not recommend it to anyone who is looking for a 4 or 5 star hotel. We did not mind this at all, camping in a cabin is pretty darn cool. They had a swimming pool, kiddie pool, a little water fun area for the kids, entertainment schedules, playgrounds, pillow jump for the kids, game room, laundry and a kwik mart on the premises. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves nature and camping!

2008 Visit
We just got back from holidays. We have been going to Ocean Lakes since 1975 that is over 30 years. I have notice a lot of changes since then. I went as a child and now take my family there. We have a bit to drive since we live in Canada,about 16-18 hour drive,but its well worth it! They always try to make thing better every few years to accommodate the different age groups. This year our site was right on the main strip,very busy at night until about 11:00 p.m. with the golf carts crushing the main strip. The only complaint I had this time around was,the golf carts have to follow the rules as a car,stopping at stop signs,using hand signals,not to cut people of in cars etc I did not see many people that were driving these golf carts following the rules which were suppose to be followed! They are good about ticketing kids that are not 16 which is right. I think there should be a curfew for any teens etc under 19. I see a lot of them roaming around at night. Our neighbor beside us had a cooler stolen. If there was a curfew none of this would happen! I have already booked for next year at this campground because I find there is lot to do! I also have met a friend in 1975 and we still meet up with our families each year.

Hope you do not have a problem!
The campground is nice, but the staff is not friendly. We have camped at this campground for years and have always felt it was a shame they did not provide better customer service. After several issues with this camping trip we will be looking for a new place to stay next year!
