Our daughter wanted to go to Myrtle Beach for her 9th birthday, so we chose to book a stay with the KOA Kampground. It was pretty neat, we never stayed at a place with Kabins before, this was a great choice we made. We got the four person Kabin, it features a Full size bed and a set of bunk bed. It had air conditioning and electricity also. The room was not big, but big enough for us four to sleep in. We would definitely do this again. The bath house was pretty clean, and it had 6 toilet stalls and 5 shower stalls. I would not recommend it to anyone who is looking for a 4 or 5 star hotel. We did not mind this at all, camping in a cabin is pretty darn cool. They had a swimming pool, kiddie pool, a little water fun area for the kids, entertainment schedules, playgrounds, pillow jump for the kids, game room, laundry and a kwik mart on the premises. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves nature and camping!

We just arrived home from our 7 day stay at the KOA in Myrtle Beach. I am real big on reviews and thought I would help the parents out ahead of time beings I am one with 2 children 10 and 12 years of age. First of all make sure you check to see they have added your children which is a extra charge daily for each one. We arrived there after a 7 hour trip and were told our children would be extra. So I then asked to speak to a manager whom this man named Roger came out and asked me would I like to cancel my reservation or I could trade him my kids for his dogs. Not funny! I was very upset and told him he was very rude. I then did talk to the real manager so beware there. Anyhow the rest of the staff were very nice including the owner. The beach was very scary to get too. I know they say its just a few blocks, well with children it is a long walk and also scary. You have to cross a main Hwy ,which while there 2 children I know of got hit by vehicles crossing. I would not at all suggest letting children cross this without a adult. We heard the ambulance the whole time we were there. We drove and parked over there which is 6 dollars a day to park and in my opinion is worth every dime. There are activities at the KOA for children. My kids were not to thrilled with them though. Little kids would like it though. They have a place to fish which is what my kids did the most. We stayed pretty busy doing things outside the camp thank goodness or we would have had to find another place to stay due to the location and activities. They do have bath houses which are not the cleanest we have ever saw. We camp a lot and I would try somewhere different for the next vacation. Closer to the beach and more to do for the children. I hope this helps other parents like me who rely on reviews and live a good ways away that cannot visit ahead of time to see it for yourself.

We just got back from Myrtle Beach KOA and loved it and will return many many many times to come.

First do not go during May or over Labor Day Weekend which is the times for biker weeks. We went June 6th - June 14th and had no trouble.

I have a lot of info that I will try and share. First when making your reservations it's up to you but I would recommend asking to not be put in cabin 80 or 90. We stayed in 90 and the cabin was fine and it's actually bigger than the other cabins seeing it was a loft but it is on the small side of the campground where the people who work at the KOA stay. We did not have the nice shade trees that the other side had. Which ended up not being to horrible seeing we weren't there a whole lot but cabins 80 and 90 are not what you see in the pictures on the KOA site. Those cabins are on the bigger side with nice lots and tons and tons of shade. The shade lots are further from the pool and store but well worth it. They do have golf carts which you can rent for the week at $190.00 with a $100.00 deposit.

About the cabins themselves. Ours wasn't the one in all the pictures but it was still fine. A small screened in porch.a nice deck etc. If you are a chef bring your on pots and pans. They are very limited. One pot one pan a few cups a few plates. Nothing fancy. There is also a microwave, toaster and coffee maker. Very basic but fine if you are spending most of your time at the beach or pool. If you are wanting a five star place to sleep this isn't it but if your wanting a nice upscale camp site in a great camp ground try it out.

I have read reviews saying the staff wasn't friendly but I truly have no idea what they are talking about. Everyone we talked to was very nice and willing to help or answer questions. I do have to say they didn't know about current things going on in Myrtle Beach though. There was a very big Sun Fun Fest going on and no one knew what I was talking about. They did look it up on the computer for me though and then could tell me how to get there.

The pools are very nice they have a bigger one more for adults and then they have a smaller one that most of the kids play in and then they have a small maybe 5 by 5 three foot pool. They also added a splash pad and jumping pillow which everyone enjoyed. We have a 3,4 and 8 year old and they all had tons of fun.

The beach is within easy walking distance but you can also go down 6th Ave South and there is parking. It was high 90's and the kids got sick of walking very fast. The Beach is wonderful right of 6th Ave South. It's a lot less crowded than other places.

I have to say the best kept secret of Myrtle Beach has to be Myrtle Beach State Park. The shell picking is great here and the pier is a very cool place to see things being caught. Within a 10 min period we saw a sting ray and three small sharks be caught. Thank goodness they let them all go. If you want to drive 16 miles further there is also Hamilton Beach State Park which is also very nice.

A bit about food. There is a very cool place to eat called Thorney's which is in very easy walking distance of the campground. In side you can order a nice steak but there are TV's at most tables along with an indoor place for the kids to play while the grown up's sit and talk. You are going to pay between 15 and 40 for a meal but if you want a kid friendly place close this is it.

As far as info on Myrtle Beach itself. Broadway at the Beach is a must. We went at least three or four times on our stay. Avoid bike weeks like I said and stay away from "the strip" along the beach hotel at night. There are tons of kids and cars out. If you want to go down to that area at night I would park and walk.

Be prepared for slow, slow traffic on 501 heading into Myrtle Beach. There are thousands of people driving it trying to get to Myrtle beach and many of them are young adults. I am not kidding when I say we saw at least 10 fender benders. Many of them with more than two cars involved. The problem is there is tons of traffic. You start to pick up speed and then someone will slam on their brakes and bam another wreck happens. Be prepared for very quick stops and I would stay off phones during this part of the trip you really do need to be prepared to stop at any second.

We had a wonderful time at Myrtle Beach and the KOA and can't wait to go back. Any questions let me know I'll see if I can help

I almost forgot. If you are coming from the north and need somewhere to stay for the night.

What can you say ... 2 blocks from the beach, one block from Family Kingdom and a couple of blocks from the heart of Myrtle Beach. This KOA is convenient to everything. Can't beat the prices. We have stayed in the camping cabins (beds only) and the park models (two bedrooms, bath, kitchen, TV, microwave, etc) The place is great, especially for the kids. We can take their bikes and they can ride anywhere, pets are welcome and you can't beat the friendly "camping crowd". (Try sitting by a campfire every night with the neighbors at one of those expensive oceanfront places...lol). The pools are nice, but can get crowded and dirty during busy times. They have a laundry mat, used to have a game room the last time we went (02/07) it was gone. A real nice "dog playground" where you can let your pet run free, off leash, a lake for fishing (no license required), large, clean bath houses. We love this place. Sometimes the staff can be a little "abrupt" especially if you request a certain site or cabin, your usually told it's first come-first serve, but many times we have requested a certain cabin or park model and were told it was taken only to see it empty the entire time we were there. Definitely one of our favorite places to stay.

KOA was great. Very patient and sweet people. However, not so nice at the Sea Trawler Calabash Seafood House, Bus. Hwy. 17 & 12th Ave S. MB. If you have grey hair, the manager/owner is entitled to be rude and adversarial. He would not entertain any complaint about cold, old, and dry food. Rather than kick up a rukus, we left. I give it one skull and crossbones; Grandma does not rate it nearly as favorable. Eat there at your own risk.

My wife an I spent 7 days in our 28 foot Solarius at the KOA campground in Myrtle Beach. It was beautiful. Every site was shaded and breezy. We were two short blocks from the uncrowded beach that was as clean as it could possibly get. The camp grounds had great security. It had a very nice pool. And we found that we were centrally located to everything. If I were to buy a place to live it would be in this campground.
