4.0 stars4.0 stars4.0 stars4.0 stars4.0 stars Echo of Trains aganist the foothills - from TripAdvisor.com
We stayed on one of the lakes, in a Truck Camper. Our stay was peaceful and relaxing, no bad campers anywhere near us. We fished for a short time but didn't catch anything. We did see some real big large mouth Bass hauled out by others one going an easy 7lbs. I too heard the trains, but as the horns echoed off the foothills it was more peaceful than anything else. Once inside my camper I couldn't hear them, but we had a site farther back in the campground. The Staff was friendly and helpful and the grounds were clean and well kept. We showered in the camper so I did not go inside the bath houses. The ducks and geese came by our site once in the morning and once in the evening, I enjoyed the visit with them they stayed only a few minutes and that was it. We walked the entire campground and I did not see any evidence that would lead me to say there was excessive fowl droppings. But what is excessive to some is normal for others. I really enjoyed the stay.

3.0 stars3.0 stars3.0 stars3.0 stars3.0 stars Nice Location but lots of noise and goose poop everywhere! - from TripAdvisor.com
We stated at this KOA in the spring and the location is very easy to get to and the camping is a bit tight but not bad for KOA. The train is a hit with the kids as it is easy to see from the main KOA area. At night the noise from a Bar right next to this campground is very loud. Lots of bikers etc. at night via the Bar. When we were visiting this location there was Goose poop all over the place (on camp side, grass areas, etc. Couldn't walk anywhere without stepping in this stuff!

1.0 stars1.0 stars1.0 stars1.0 stars1.0 stars Train Whistles and Road Noise - from TripAdvisor.com
We stayed at this KOA for the first time on May 28, 2008. We arrived late after the office was closed but had reserved a RV Motorhome site from the KOA website. There is a rail line that runs parallel to the camp site and a highway. We were very tired from a long drive and about 11 or 12 am a train came through the area. As it was a rail road crossing, the train blew its whistles many times. At first we thought that maybe it would be the only train for the night but there were several trains that passed by, each blowing whistles over and over again. The site we were on was close to the road and road noise was loud throughout the night. We were not able to sleep and talked to the staff the next morning about another camp site. The person we talked to stated that no one else ever complained about the trains or the road noise and she said we would get used to it and that we would have the train noise throughout their camp ground. I'm sorry but I don't think a 3-day stay would condition me for the noise. I canceled my reservations from Asheville KOA East and moved to Asheville KOA West and the staff here are wonderful with no trains. Some road noise but nothing like Asheville KOA East.

2.0 stars2.0 stars2.0 stars2.0 stars2.0 stars Disappointed - from TripAdvisor.com
We stayed at this KOA for the first time last weekend with friends (4 kabins total.) We're frequent KOA campers at other KOAs and were disappointed with this one. One employee was very helpful & friendly (thanks Amy) but the others with which we had contact were downright rude and condescending to campers; this was most evident at the mother's day breakfast. Unfortunately I forgot to get their names so you could try to steer clear of them, if that's at all possible.

Train whistles blew several (3-4) times each night on nearby tracks making it hard to get a good solid night's sleep. The pool water was too cold to be comfortable for more than a few minutes. To be fair, the pool has just opened for the season and I'm sure the garden hose that filled it only contained very cold water. Some of the stalls in the bathhouse nearest our kabins were often out of toilet paper and the trash receptacles were overflowing every time I was in the (women's) bathroom. There were some pluses: the ice cream social was great, the individual shower stalls were clean and the walk around the lake was beautiful. The kabins themselves were clean and in good repair and had heat and A/C. The land and property itself is lovely.

This East Asheville KOA needs to replace some grumpy and abrasive personnel and clean the bathrooms more often on busy weekends if they want to earn back our business.

This is a great campground if you like Asheville because it's close to Asheville. We brought my niece and nephew and they had a great time too. Employees were very friendly, bathrooms clean. We stayed our motorhome and we liked this place, would go back again.

4.0 stars4.0 stars4.0 stars4.0 stars4.0 stars Nice little place to stay - from TripAdvisor.com
I have stayed here twice and this time I stayed here in order to attend Homecoming at my Alma Mater. The staff is always friendly and the bathrooms are always clean. I stayed beside the "main" lake/pond that folks paddle boats on and fish from both times but discovered the "other" quieter pond that I will likely stay beside next time. The Main Pond is for families and folks that want to socialize. The Other Pond is for folks who want to feel more like they're in the woods with lily pads and shaded trees. Very very nice place.

Downsides to this particular visit:
* Some folks "moved" in next to me at about eleven at night with a dog in tow. I had already hit the hay and all I could hear for about an hour was their barking dog and car doors slamming. I ended up getting up and driving to the local store for some ear-plugs. (thus adding my OWN car doors slamming to the mix of noises... urgh)
* The car noise from the Interstate seemed overwhelming at about three in the morning again, good to have earplugs.

A new plus:
Wireless internet! From my tent!

We stayed in one of the one room kamp Kabin. The Kabin was nice and the heat worked great. Campground was clean, nice size. The bathhouse and restrooms were older ones. If you like the sounds of a train whistle at midnight and six in the morning this is the place for you. I can say one thing the staff was very nice and took time to answer questions.
