We have stayed at Camp Hatteras twice this year, the last time being over Labor Day weekend. We camp with 4 children and while the campground does charge a little more, it is worth the money. The campground is large, we stayed on the ocean side and were in a cul-de-sac. Although we have stayed on one of the premier sites, I'm not sure I would call them premiere, you can't see the ocean for the dunes. Oh, don't play on the dunes, camp security...

The campground is very clean and well maintained but way too expensive. You are charged to use the amenities except for the pool. You shouldn't have too pay extra when you pay so much $$$ out. We choose to stay in our rig thinking we should save $$$$ by doing so. Well we learned that we would have saved money by renting a house. We had 2 adults and 3 kids. Ocean sites have tall dunes between the ocean and the park so you don't really have an ocean view. The Sound Sites have tall grass so you do not have a good view of sound, except for a few sites at the dock which are excellent. It is difficult to get one of the better sites.
The park has high rates and also charge for each pet. By the time all the charges are added, you're paying over $60.00 a night in a non-premier site.
