One of our favorite campgrounds...a little expensive - from TripAdvisor.com
|
We go to Pinewood Lodge every year...it is my son's favorite spot to camp. The sites are generally quite large and shaded - and the fire pits are beautiful - big rocks and boulders formed into a fire pit - each one is unique. The people are nice and security is very tight. There is a great dock that the kids love to jump off of (as well as a raft). Camp store has homemade chocolate chip cookies and great ice cream - with scenic views overlooking the forest and lake (Adirondack chairs...!).
Only complaints: Sometimes the power goes out and everything is expensive! Also, they won't let you reserve specific sites - usually you get your preferred site, but not always. It is a bummer.

A very nice weekend camping trip - from TripAdvisor.com
|
I chose Pinewood Lodge Campground for a camping getaway with my boyfriend, and overall I would say I chose well. The campsite was clean and pleasant, with nicely-maintained bathrooms close by but not too close! We were also near the entrance and the tent area was skirted by three roads, which meant a little bit of extra noise, but nothing awful. The folks around us were fairly good about the quiet time rule between 11 PM and 7 AM (although the shooting at a nearby range, not affiliated with the campground, started up at 8:30 sharp!) I especially appreciated that the campsites had actual stone fire circles, perfect for cooking and marshmallow roasting - it definitely added to the "roughing it" factor. There were mostly RV and trailer campers around us, but we thoroughly enjoyed our "less is more" tenting experience.
The lodge staff was very pleasant, giving us handy tips and making sure we knew about the "Carnival Weekend" activities. We didn't end up participating, but thought it was cute that they had stuff going on. The pool, air hockey and arcade games in the lodge were a nice diversion. We also spent some time hanging out on the "beach" of Pinewood Lake, where the many families and their kids seemed to be having a grand old time, and also rented a rowboat to tool around. We watched a swan serenely paddling across the water with her 7 little cygnets lined up single-file behind her.
I would definitely go back to Pinewood, using it as a homebase to do some of the more touristy things in Plymouth we didn't have time for on this trip. I might try to request a slightly nicer tent spot, but otherwise everything was pretty much as I expected and hoped it would be.
