4.0 stars4.0 stars4.0 stars4.0 stars4.0 stars Beatiful Park and Sunsets - from TripAdvisor.com
This campground was nice, well-maintained and the bathroom facilities were very clean. I would suggest any sites that are not in the A loop. The map on the site does not tell you that there is a parking lot within view choose any other loop and you will be satisfied. Although we stayed in the A loop we were able to overlook the fact that we had a partial view of the parking lot to enjoy the beautiful sunsets and water views. The camper store staff is friendly.

The town of Crisfield does leave a lot to be desired, but there is a Walmart 20 minutes away and several small seafood shops on the road into town. The town does have an outfitter that rents canoes and kayaks, which we utilized because the park clearly cannot handle the demand. The canoing was fabulous, but much more difficult than one can imagine. Ask in the campstore and they will recommend you to the alternative outfitter whom we found very helpful pleasant and $10 cheaper per day compared to the park's fees, albeit you have to canoe approximately 3 miles into the outlet near the park which is a little more challenging because of more open water.

Do not waste your money to do the touristy boat ride to Smith Island. There is "nothing" to do once on Smith Island other than eat at the only restaurant and walk around the town. There are no historical landmarks and you are basically walking around a fishing town that in my opinion is very dirty with trash and debris in their drainage ditches. The boat ride is nice but at $25 per head and the $10-$15 per lunch.

We will be back to enjoy the views, canoing/kayaking and the quite surroundings. This is a hidden gem of our state park system.

I just stayed at Jane Island State Park from July 12-14.

Positives: camp sites were well-maintained, and not too close to one another, although I've seen more secluded layouts. The bathrooms and showers were above average for a campground. The water is right there, providing a beautiful backdrop to your camping experience. The staff at the camp store were nice and accommodating. We rented kayaks and had a great time out in the water. A beautiful array of wildlife hangs out at the marina. Plenty of people were pulling fish and crab out of the water on a regular basis.

Negatives: since you're right on the water there are more bugs than normal. the back part of "loop a", where we stayed, is adjacent to a big parking lot, so it's not the most picturesque setting- you're very aware of it until the sun goes down. poison ivy seemed to exist in not so out-of-the-way locations. We had a patch 2 feet from our camp fire, which could've been a problem at night. The town of Crisfield leaves a lot to be desired. We went to buy seafood and found it to be below average (the scallops were yellow and the woman helping us was smoking a cigarette when we walked in). We went to a nearby grocery store and the smell inside was sour. We drove 40 min to a Food Lion to find a decent piece of meat to cook, and I'm not a food snob. Lastly, don't go here for the hiking. the trails are short, flat, buggy, and not even close to being exciting. They really shouldn't advertise this camp site as having "hiking".

That being said, we had a good time and would go back again some time in the future.

5.0 stars5.0 stars5.0 stars5.0 stars5.0 stars Loved the cabin - from TripAdvisor.com
My family of three and some friends stayed in one of the cabins operated by the state park over Memorial Day weekend and had a very lovely time.

The cabin was quite spacious, with three bedrooms and a full kitchen and was very clean and well-kept (there were very few bugs inside, but this was early in a cool spring). The cabin also had a screened-in porch and out front was a grill and a fire pit. About 100 feet from the cabin's front door was a dock which stretched out into the canal that separates the mainland from the island...if you go, take some chicken necks and twine and have some fun crabbing off the dock. The cabins are well-removed from the camper area and are very isolated and quiet. We couldn't have been more pleased with the accommodations.

The primary attraction here is the kayaking, as the island is actually more a collection of smaller land masses around and through which you kayak on the channels that wind through the "island." That said, make sure you make kayak arrangements early, or plan to bring your own. One downside of the cabin location was that there is no easy access to the water for your kayaks...we managed to make our way in and out off the rocks that make up the wall of the canal on the mainland side, but not everyone may be comfortable with this.

5.0 stars5.0 stars5.0 stars5.0 stars5.0 stars One of the better state parks - from TripAdvisor.com
Janes Island is a regular getaway for me and my family (we have three kids). We have always found the campsites to be clean and well-maintained. The setting is truly beautiful: level wooded sites right on the water, with walking trails, kayaking trails, good fishing and crabbing right at the campground, and breath-taking sunsets over the bay. One of the best features is the beach which because it is only accessible by boat is one of the few uncrowded beaches you can find. The only word of warning I have is: avoid the weekend of the annual Scorchy Tawes Pro Am fishing tournament that takes place in Crisfield; the campground and marina are packed with noisy fishermen that week! But for the rest of the year Janes Island is a beautiful, quiet park that I highly recommend.

4.0 stars4.0 stars4.0 stars4.0 stars4.0 stars Better than average campground - from TripAdvisor.com
After reading the one review on here, I was nervous about staying at Janes Island State Park but our usual campground, Assateague was booked full.
We came here on a long weekend with two toddlers and three adults. I didn't see any trash and the showers were hot. One of the bathroom doors didn't lock properly and the hand dryer was broken but we were camping. If this happened at a hotel, I would be annoyed but campers are used to "roughing it" without a hand dryer! We came in September so it wasn't crowded and 95% of the people we met were very pleasant. Our site in B loop was relatively secluded and close to the beautiful creek where you can fish, crab and kayak/canoe. You do have to boat or canoe to the beach off the mainland and its a bit of a trek in the heat with two kids but the bay beach is calm and almost deserted in September. Our kids loved it. I'd definitely recommend this park to anyone who likes to kayak or do walking trails. The park office is not that helpful and know nothing about the area judging by the two people we spoke to.

Jane's Island State Park is a beautiful campground right on the water. Fishing, crabbing and boating are at your door step. Beautiful sunsets are the back drop of every evening. Wild life is abundant. I have read a complaint about this campground on this site. In response to that if campers would dispose of trash properly, instead of leaving it behind, the camp ground would not be "trash strewn."

Janes Island was terrible. The sites were poorly maintained. The showers did not work properly. The sites were trash-strewn. The marina was crowded. Stay away.
