Great hiking and a view to boot!

If you enjoy hiking, you will love Elk Neck State Park. It is a large park, with boat launch area, various picnic areas, surrounded by the Chesapeake Bay. But if you want a great hike, keep driving all the way to the end of the little peninsula. There is a parking area, and an obvious nice wide trail. The first part of the trail is along the mud cliffs and the view is stunning. The trail runs through woods, then a large meadow, back to woods, and ends at the Point. There is a very small lighthouse, not usually open (check ahead for times), but you will have a 180 degree view of the Bay. It is lovely, and peaceful (usually!). If you are adventurous, walk west along the point until you come to the woods, and there is another, narrower trail back. But be prepared for some steepish hills both down and up. Watch for butterflies in the meadow area this is a well-known spot for them! The town of North East is quaint, shops charming, and seafood pretty good.
