We had the campground to ourselves since it was mid-week in November, but I hear it can be crowded in the high season. The cabin (I think we had #60) was absolutely perfect for the two of us! Very clean and cozy, with a gas fireplace inside and fire pit steps from the front porch. you're surrounded by redwoods which is a great feeling. The staff were all really friendly. It could not have been a better romantic getaway! Read More >>

Although it was a few years ago, this stay was a memorable one for my husband and me and our 2 friends with whom we camped. We set up our tent in the assigned space which was just about adequate. The big red woods was the best part that I like and the river that ran near the site where there were big fish and icy water to dip your feet in. There were rest rooms which were only passable in hygiene. I found it a bit crowded maybe because it was... Read More >>

We camped at Big Sur for Memorial Day '05 after having seen this campground on another trip through the area. The scenery is gorgeous and the campground was beautiful. Some sites are definitely better than others. Ours was pretty small (it was the last one available, even though we booked in Jan.). We definitely could not have fit more than 1 car or 1 tent. But it was just the 2 of us & the scenery made up for it. The river was within... Read More >>

Our family stayed at Big Sur Campground without reading any of the reviews first and I am glad we did. We had a wonderful time, yes the camping spots were not ultra spacious however, we camped in a tent with 4 teenage boys and we enjoyed every minute of it. Our spot was right next to the river and they swam all day., we loved the warm showers and the soft serve ice cream! In the evening it was quiet by 10pm. We are headed back there this summer... In reading these other reviews I can't believe it's the same place we stayed, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, we had forgotten garlic and the women at the office offered to go to her home and get some for us. We had originally had 3 families going and at the last minute one of the families couldn't make it and they refunded their money without question. The only complaint I would have (If you could call it a complaint) We have a... Read More >>

I had a great time on my stay at this campground. I have been camping every year my whole life and although it was not the best campground in all of California its the nicest in Big Sur. Its quaint, well maintained, the campsites compared to all the other campgrounds I've stayed at were spacious. I wasn't expecting customer service, because I am camping not staying in a hotel. The showers were free and the hot water never ran out, the bathrooms... Read More >>

We camped at Big Sur Campground over President's Day weekend and loved it! I had read some of the reviews and I couldn't disagree more. We had a riverside campsite which was not huge, but was perfect for the two of us. The site was very full but it didn't bother us at all. The area was a beautiful redwood forest with hiking near by and even an inconspicuous pub about a 3 minute walk from the grounds! We found the service to be excellent! I... Read More >>

We decided not to stay there because of the bad reviews but we looked at it to see for ourselves. No customer service and the place is not worth it. You are better off with another campground along Hwy 1 - there is one by Jade Cove that's simple but good for camping. No cabins there though. Read More >>
1.0 stars1.0 stars1.0 stars1.0 stars1.0 stars Terrible place! Will never stay there again! - from TripAdvisor.com
Terrible place and terrible service. When we arrived at check-in time, they said our cabin was not ready and to come back in 30 mins. We came back 45 mins. later and were told it was still not ready. We insisted on going to our cabin and asked to speak to the manager. The staff member we met said he was the manager (which we found out later was a lie, he was the grounds manager and not the manager of the whole campground, which is whom we wanted... Read More >>
1.0 stars1.0 stars1.0 stars1.0 stars1.0 stars Unfair cancellation policy - from TripAdvisor.com
After reading all the bad reviews here I called to cancel my reservations at Big Sur Campground & Cabins. I was well within the 3-day cancellation period and yet the guy at the reservation desk informs me that there's a $20 "processing fee". Seriously? Yeah, seriously, "because of the credit card companies." When I complained that no one told me of this policy at the time of my reservation he got defensive, insisted that I /must/ have... 1.0 stars1.0 stars1.0 stars1.0 stars1.0 stars Misinformed about Cabins - the Manager did not care about our situation - from TripAdvisor.com
Called on Tuesday August 7th, said they had someone cancel one the cabins. We took it, thought we had a cabin to our selves. After booking saw mixed reviews about the place. I called back and asked if they were cabins or mobile homes, told me they were cabins, I referred to reviews and their website and said your website is a bit misleading. They assured me that is was nice, we would have our own private pit, was stand alone, made it... Read More >>
