Terrible Campground
Stay at the Shenandoah Hills Campground over the Labor Day weekend 2008. Reasonable priced for full hookups. Campground in awful shape roads in bad need of repair, grass hadn't been mowed for weeks, charged to use shower house, they had several workkampers employed which must have been former Nazi's, they watched everyone like a hawk. I would not refer this campground to anyone, even for overnight stop.

Go to Salt Lake City for the Mountains!
But don't stay at Pony Express RV Resort! The spaces are way too close together and so unlevel that it makes it hard even if you have automatic levelers. The whole park is concrete and black-top with very little grass or Shade Tree's. They seem to get a lot of "Oil Workers" since they are so close to the refinery. You can also smell the "stench" from the refinery and hear the roar of the traffic on the expressway that runs right through the Park. But the worst part of our stay was the way we were treated by the Management! Ed and Judy have no experience running a RV Park and zero customer service skills. They were always rude and often sarcastic and grumpy. We moved on to the KOA on North Temple and they were so nice and commented on how they often get comments like ours from Pony Express RV Resort. So the morel of the story is...go to Salt Lake City for the beautiful mountains but don't go camping at Pony Express RV Resort! See you all down the road.

Would not recommend

Much of the staff/owners are very unfriendly, especially those running the livery. Definitely not a family campground. Will not return.

Don't Stay Here!
Extremely poor customer service. Staff was rude, unprofessional, and failed to resolve issues to our satisfaction. After our reservation was made, they called back to tell us there was a three night minimum. We reluctantly agreed because they were not willing to refund our deposit. They later called back to inform us there was a price increase and that we needed to pay in full weeks before our arrival. We again reluctantly agreed because they would not refund our deposit and stated "we have a waiting list so if you don't want to stay then don't stay" Their policies seem to change with the tides of the York River. I would highly discourage anyone from doing business with this campground. Additionally, we spoke to numerous seasonal residents who are pulling out over some of the same issues we had. There are far too many campgrounds to enjoy in the Virginia area without having to stay here! Best of Luck if you do.

Very rude owner
The Owner was very unfriendly if not rude. We asked for a WiFi and satellite friendly site. He told us that he don't like "smart people" and that we were very rude to his daughter on the counter. On our question to her she could not say that we are rude people. It was just our appearance according to her. Be careful when you camp there, the owner seems to be very aggressive and unpredictable. We left and camped on the KOA. What a difference!

This park is awesome. The staff is friendly, helpful, and they go far and beyond for you. They have over 700 campsites. The campsite have a huge variety. From seclusion, open, being on the Cowlits River, and many more choices. It is a great place to have a family reunion or big get together. The store has great food and service.

Not for kids
I am married with 3 kids under the age of 10. I thought I would take the family for a nice camping adventure during the Labor Day Weekend. We had camped one time earlier this summer at White Lake State Park in NH, which is a very nice place. I have canoed and camped on the Saco about 10 years ago and had fond memories. Canal Bridge is disgusting. There are dirty old trailers there that should be in a junk yard. When you walk into the office, it is so messy. They sell some food, but I wouldn't trust it was fresh. The bathrooms oh dear God. Nasty and horrible smell of feces with no toilet paper. And the noise of partying until 2am. No apparent "quiet time". I know the Saco is a party river, but didn't quite expect this campground to have no rules. Definitely not a family destination. We planned to stay for 3 nights, but left after the first. I managed to get a refund for one day. The beach on the Saco had a few items of litter, like beer cans and and old radio.

Beware this is no park, it is a parking lot only!
Cramped, run down, poorly layed out. Rear yard 100' I40 front yard 200' I26 traffic noise. This is no place for children they were all playing in the narrow road through park very dangerous. Woodall rated? Trailer Life rated 5/4/5. If you are good with parking your motorhome in a substandard, hole in the wall this is your spot. The rating books have not seen this park in years or they are not not to be trusted. No wifi, no dog walk, no quiet, no grass,no room to breath and really a disappointment. Walmart a better choice, at least you know what to expect. Enterprise car rental was best part of stay.
