I have stayed at Butterfield for a winter season, but it won't be my last visit! I was amazed at the number of activities hosted by the park as well as by the guests. And what a friendly social bunch they are, too!
There are games day and night in the clubhouse, potlucks, live entertainment, karaoke, holiday parties, line dancing, exercise classes, a hiking club, tag-a-longs, class on computers and woodworking...the list seems...

Beautiful but very noisy

I love this place for the facilities, pool, astronomical observatory with it's nightly shows, friendly staff and exercise room. The downside for me, and why I left after two weeks, was the train noise throughout the night. During the day you don't notice it but at night, with the train tracks a block away the horns are long and loud as trains run through Benson. Just be aware of this before you commit to an extended stay.
