Waste of Time & Money
Pretty lake with walking trail. Park supervisor was extremely rude. If you have anything in mind other than fishing, stay clear of this lake. If you are not fishing, you are an annoyance and will be dealt with by the uneducated staff. Because fishing is their only apparent source of income, the fees are exorbitant and the rewards simply not worth it. They boast large fish on the website but I have never heard of anything being caught there that was anything bigger than entertainment for a child – and a +$30.00 it's definitely not worth it. Anything you can think of to do at this lake besides sitting on a bench or walking the trail has a costly fee attached to it, and the "Sam Dale Park" portion of the lake is constantly chained off and inaccessible. If you choose to visit this lake, you will probably leave disappointed and most likely be upset with the staff. Welcome to Ozark, Alabama!

Lakeside RV Park Opelika - Camping In A Dump
Lakeside RV park in Opelika, Alabama is a dump. The worst campground I've ever seen. I was a permanent resident for 7 months. For the last two months I was blamed for a former camper's negative review of the park. I was threatened and intimidated and finally thrown out with just a few days notice. (Update1: 3 hours to move and owner was on my lot threatening my life if I am not out by noon. That man is not all there... Update2: Moved. Owner visited a local business, disclosing information that could have only come from emails that I sent and received on his park's wireless internet. So much for security and privacy.) I was falsely blamed for someone else's lawful effort to exercise their right to free speech. The owners admitted to me that everything in the review is true, they just didn't like the way it was presented. The other camper hit the nail right on the head.

Nice park, over stated amenities, very picky on units, some drug traffic with permies.

Camping In A Junkyard
The front of the park features junk vehicles under their sign and our host met us at the entrance holding a beer. There was never anyone in the office (old mobile home) and we were directed to yet another mobile home if we needed service in the future. There was junk everywhere, empty mobile homes, equipment, cars, trailers, and other material in piles or scattered about. There is a junkyard at one end of the park and a sandpit at the other. The lake in "Lakeside" is a tiny mud hole in the woods. The dirt roads flooded when it rained, which resulted in red clay dirt all over our vehicles. When it was dry there was a lot of dust. There was much highway noise throughout the day and night. One of the residents apparently operates a towing business, coming and going all through the night in a noisy diesel and a large truck with no muffler. There was little in the way of landscaping. Lakeside RV park was very trashy, we were happy to leave, and we'll definitely avoid it in the future.

Great park
Sherling Lake is a beautiful park. Two small lakes provide enough fish for dinner. Staff is very nice and friendly. Campground is clean and neat - trash is picked up daily at your site. Sites are quite close together, but we were surrounded by three huge fifth wheels pulled by semi trucks, so maybe the sites weren't as close as it seemed. There are covered picnic tables, and a nice walking path through a wooded area. Sites have some trees - enough for a little shade. Close to town and Walmart; the campground has a bit of highway noise, but it dies down at night. Restroom/shower facilities are clean but small for the size of the campground with two toilet stalls and one shower stall in each (men's and women's). We will come here again. We camped here for a week in April, 2009 in a 24 foot fifth wheel.
